Press Release

GERING & LóPEZ GALLERY is pleased to present Love in Vein: Editions Fawbush projects & artists 2005-2010. This is the publisher’s second exhibition with the gallery.

Love in Vein focuses on a selection of unique pieces and editioned projects by artists with whom the publisher has worked over the last five years.

The exhibition has various points of access. In its totality, the exhibit presents the trajectory of a publisher in the second half of its 12-year history. The individual works come together to reveal connections between seemingly disparate artists. A sense of how and why Editions Fawbush gravitates towards these artists and what the publisher seeks to draw out from their sculptural or graphic practices begins to crystallize.

In some instances, the publisher and artist begin a project in response to a desire to experiment with a new idea for a developing body of work. In others, the collaboration is a means to explore another medium within an existing body of work. The exhibition also presents unique pieces by several of the artists so that the viewer may see a broader range of practices that inform the published edition.

A telling characteristic of Editions Fawbush is its long history with many of its artists. The fruit of that history is twofold: several projects are discussed and developed over time as an artist moves forward through various series and bodies of work. Secondly, this has led to the publisher’s discovery of insights that may or may not be immediately apparent, but that inform the creative process. The publisher creates editions through collaboration, a process that ultimately leads to pairing an artist with a relatable fabricator or printer. That pairing invariably leads to a level of quality and refinement of ideas that sometimes surprises and exceeds even the artist’s expectations.
