Press Release

John F. Simon Jr.'s exhibition, ComplexCity was presented by Sandra Gering Gallery at its former Soho location.

Sandra Gering Gallery is pleased to exhibit new work by John F. Simon, Jr. from 13 April 20 May 2000. Included in the installation are a new edition by Simon entitled ComplexCity and recent drawings.

ComplexCity features original software written by Simon displayed on flat panel LCD screens mounted to acrylic plastic housing. As wall units, the pieces function as constantly evolving "paintings". The installation gives viewers the opportunity to see all twelve of the works from the ComplexCity edition running simultaneously; a situation that provides access to a wide range of the possibilities of the work at once.

Concurrent with the exhibition at Sandra Gering Gallery, John F. Simon, Jr.'s work Every Icon was included in the Whitney Biennial.

ComplexCity is Simon's third edition in the software panel format. His first edition, Color Panel v1.0, is in the collections of the Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum, and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Simon's drawings were exhibited at the Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase, NY, in the show End Papers: 1890-1900 and 1990-2000.
